DC air conditioners can run directly from a battery or solar system without the need for an inverter. When an inverter converts DC to AC, approximately 10% of energy is lost in the process. As a result, DC units offer longer runtime compared to 110V units, making them an ideal choice for off-grid systems.

The size of the air conditioner you need depends on factors such as your vehicle's size, insulation, and the climate in which it will be used. Typically, a 7,000 BTU unit is sufficient for vehicles up to 22 feet in length. As a general guideline, you’ll need approximately 13,500 BTU for every 350 square feet of living space.

The VELIT 2000R operates at 12V, drawing between 20-60A depending on ambient temperature and power settings. For estimating maximum runtime, we recommend using 30A as a baseline. For instance, a 300Ah lithium battery can power the unit for up to 10 hours. Adding solar panels can further extend the runtime.

Our 12V unit can run while driving and can be powered directly by the vehicle's alternator. If you primarily plan to use the unit while driving, a secondary house battery is not required. A fully charged vehicle battery can power the unit for a short period (approximately 30 minutes), and the unit is equipped with a low-voltage cutoff feature to prevent draining the vehicle's battery.

Yes, our 12V unit can run solely on solar power. To operate the unit entirely on solar energy without drawing from your batteries, we recommend a solar setup of at least 600W or more.
